12 Days of Impact- Angel Tree

Many of the people served by United Housing Connections are families with children. As the holidays approach they begin to face the hard decision of how much to budget towards food, paying bills on time and gifts. At United Housing Connections we know that having a house is the first step to creating a happy home so this year we hosted our first Angel Tree to brighten our families’ Christmases and relieve some holiday stress.

After reaching out to mothers and fathers, we compiled a wishlist for nearly fifty children from newborns to 18 year olds. The tags were hung on a tree at the United Housing Connections office and at the Chick-fil-A on Haywood Road with care. Like children on Christmas morning, our staff went to the Chick-fil-A tree the next day to discover nearly every tag had already been taken!

But we soon found out there were more children in need. The Friday morning after our Angel Tree had gone up Thomascina walked into our office to speak with a United Housing Connections staff member, Vanessa Johnson. Tears welled in her eyes as she realized that she had missed the deadline to have her children included in this year’s tree. After seeing the selfless support of our community, we knew that Thomascina’s children would immediately be picked up off the tree. And we were right- today we are wrapping a Razor Scooter for Sergio, a baby doll for Shaniya, and a hair styling doll for Zaniyah.

Yesterday, we collected the gifts from Chick-fil-A and we have been overwhelmed by the support neighbors have offered neighbors. So on behalf of Alexandra, Adanyah, Alanna, Amirie, Amiyah, Aniyah, Anthony, Ashanti, Benjamin, Bralyn, Bryson, Brittany, Chance, Dalilah, Daxton, Dejaun, Delion, Hezekiah, Jabarray, Jaidan, Jakeim, James, Janiya, Jerimiah, Joshua, Josiah, Juaqarious, Karsen, Legend, Madelyn, Marcus, Marquis, Miles, Nevaeh, Ni’el, Noah, Nuhriah, Prince, Shaniya, Shante, Sergio, Sophia, Talino, Tamyious, Tayla, Tyvarious, Za’Kiyah, Za’Karrie, Za’Marrie, Zakeious, Zaniyah, Zara and Zionnah – THANK YOU! We know there will be many smiles and joyful tears in the homes of United Housing Connections families this Christmas. The biggest problem we are facing now is finding the best way to wrap three bikes!
