Emergency Rental Assistance Program

This program is designed to assist Greenville County residents living in rental property and who have been negatively impacted due to or during the Coronavirus Pandemic. This program is NOT designed to assist homeowners with mortgage payments.




Eligibility Criteria for Tenant:

  1. Qualifies for unemployment, has experienced a reduction in household income, or has incurred significant costs, or experienced a financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  2. Demonstrates a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability (including eviction notice, utility shutoff notice, past due rent notice, past due utility notice, or any other evidence of unsafe or unhealthy living conditions or housing stability).

  3. Has a household income at or below 80 percent of the area median (See table below).


  4. Be a Greenville County resident, residing in the property that is in arrears as primary residence

  5. Be able to provide a fully executed rental lease agreement where the lease is in the Applicant’s name and the Applicant is responsible for monthly rent payments.

  6. Only one application allowed per address. Duplicate applications from multiple individuals at the same address will not be reviewed and all will be immediately denied.

  7. Must communicate with Landlord to get their agreement to participate in the program.


NOTE: Tenants residing in homes owned by an immediate family member, even if a lease is provided, will not be eligible for rent reimbursement.


Eligibility Criteria for Landlord:

  1. Agrees to accept the approved amount to cover the remainder of rent payments due.

  2. Must not have any history of financial mismanagement, including any conviction(s) for financial crimes within last 3 years.

  3. Must provide a W-9 for payment
